Thursday, April 30, 2009 - 9:10pm Finally The government has finally let one of the big three automakers file Chapter 11 bankruptcy. On behalf of all capitalists, allow me to say thank god!!! Regrettably, this should've happened months ago before the Obama administration handed Chrysler $6 billion of taxpayer money.
The number of cars sold in America does not change just because one competitor fails. Like any other business, those left standing become stronger. Tuesday, April 28, 2009 - 8:45pm Opportunist That's all Senator Arlen Specter is. He doesn't care about the voters, the Democratic Party, or the Republican Party. He cares about one thing and one thing only: staying in power! Specter knows he would've lost the Republican primary to Pat Toomey. He was getting crushed in the polls. The only way he can keep his seat is to run as a Democrat. Sunday, April 26, 2009 - 9:40pm GOP Refuses to Moderate The Republican Party is at a crossroads. They can cling to their positions on same-sex marriage, illegal immigration, and intolerance of other religions, or they can wake up and move into the new century. The demographics of this nation are changing rapidly and the GOP has yet to figure this out.
Well, white folks are becoming a smaller and smaller percentage of America. In fact, they now represent only 68% of the population. By the year 2042, non-Hispanic whites will no longer make up a majority of the U.S. population. If you do the math, it means that the white percentage will decline a little more than 1% every two years. Take those numbers and apply them to political elections. Consider that when Barack Obama runs for re-election in 2012, the white population will have fallen by 2%. If Republicans are unable to dent the huge advantage Democrats have with non-whites, President Obama will win in a landslide. In addition, the Democratic Party will continue to pick up seats in the House and Senate. Democrats will become the governing party for decades to come. The GOP needs to abandon their hard-core positions and focus on smaller government and fiscal responsibility, the principal philosophy of their party. In the past few years, the party has been hijacked by wack-job, bible-thumping, religious conservatives. These zealots are far removed from the mainstream of America, but are succeeding in destroying one of the major political parties in this nation. Thursday, April 23, 2009 - 10:30pm Torture Does Not Work Chris Matthews interviews former CIA officer Bob Baer on the effectiveness of torture on prisoners. It's a very telling assessment from someone who has been there.
It is important to note that the United States prosecuted several Japanese soldiers who waterboarded American troops during World War II. They were convicted of torture. Wednesday, April 22, 2009 - 11:22pm Even Fox News Agrees Shepard Smith, one of the top names at Fox News, agrees that America should never torture and that if we did, the criminals are Bush and Cheney.
If even moderates conservative side are angry about the torture that took place under Bush and Cheney, we may yet be able to investigate and prosecute the individuals responsible for these reprehensible actions. Tuesday, April 21, 2009 - 11:59pm The Torture Memos President Obama has opened the door for Bush administration officials to be prosecuted for their roles in torturing prisoners. He is leaving the decision to the Attorney General on whether to pursue charges against certain individuals.
Despite what the mainstream media asserts, taking legal action against these people is not a fringe, left-wing concept. We live in a nation of laws. We should not ignore them just because it might be politically uncomfortable. Monday, April 20, 2009 - 11:02pm Obama's Spending "Cuts" President Barack Obama wants his government to cut $100 million from the federal budget. This is his solution behind the proclamation of going "line by line" through the budget to cut "wasteful spending". The president's goal represents a whopping budget cut of 0.003%!!! Wow!!! What a way to run a tight ship! Are we sure he's going thru the budget line by line or was that just silly campaign rhetoric? The great Barack Obama wouldn't lie to us now, would he? Remember that Obama's budget proposal is $3.6 trillion! A cut of $100 million is nothing. It is a joke. If this is his version of cutting wasteful spending, I'd like a president who is better at math. Sunday, April 19, 2009 - 11:35pm Obama and Chavez Why is it acceptable to sit down and chat with Dmitry Medvedev, Russia's communist leader, but it is somehow wrong to shake hands and be polite to Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez? Must the GOP protest every single thing that President Obama does? Do they understand how pathetic and foolish they look? I know talking is a remarkable change from the backwards style of George W. Bush, but conservatives are going to have to get used to real, hands-on leadership in the United States. Saturday, April 18, 2009 - 7:10pm Stress Test Disaster In two weeks, the Treasury Department is going to release the results of their stress tests of 19 U.S. banks. The government will supposedly tell us which financial institutions are good and which ones are bad.
Treasury is also confused about what information to release to the public. If they tell investors and customers that certain banks are near insolvent, their stocks could plummet. There could be a run on those banks. This whole stress test idea is moronic. It is not the government's role to pick winners and losers in a specific industry. Perhaps the government should spend more time balancing their own budget and getting out of debt. After all, if the government were a company, it would be an unmitigated disaster. Thursday, April 16, 2009 - 10:15pm Tea Party Joke One of the most ridiculous protests of all-time. Where was this fake outrage during the Bush presidency? Do these people know that George Bush inherited a budget surplus and turned it into the largest deficit in the history of the nation? Oh yeah, he did that with a GOP Congress.
Wednesday, April 15, 2009 - 10:59am Somali Pirates Out of Their League By most reports, there are less than a thousand pirates wreaking havoc on cargo ships off the Somali coast. However, after five of their comrades were killed by the French and U.S. military, their solution is to step up attacks and threaten these nations.
It is only a matter of time before military action comes to the shore of Somalia to eliminate this nuisance once and for all. President Obama needs to coordinate with other nations and approve military force before these pirates do real damage. Monday, April 13, 2009 - 7:08pm Goldman Sachs to Repay TARP The Wall Street powerhouse Goldman Sachs reported a surprising $1.7 billion first quarter profit after the market closed today. More importantly, the firm plans to raise $5 billion in the secondary markets to pay back the government TARP funds.
President Obama better let Goldman Sachs pay back the loan. He needs to stay out of the private sector as much as possible...something he seems to have trouble doing. Washington has no idea how to run a business. The president hasn't figured that out yet. Sunday, April 12, 2009 - 6:08pm Obama Approved Force President Obama twice approved force to rescue the hostage held by Somali pirates. The five-day standoff ended today when Navy SEALS killed three of the pirates and rescued Captain Richard Phillips from his lifeboat. I must say it's about time someone killed some of these Somali pirates. Maybe they'll think twice before they hijack another ship. Friday, April 9, 2009 - 8:00pm Notre Dame Priests Show No Class President Barack Obama is set to deliver the commencement address at Notre Dame on May 17th. He gracefully accepted an invitation to speak from Rev. John Jenkins, the university president.
These priests are a complete disgrace. The only reason they don't want President Obama to speak at the school is because they disagree with his position on abortion. Heaven forbid these folks hear a different opinion. Last time I checked, this was America. In this country, it's actually a good thing to hear other viewpoints. Tuesday, April 7, 2009 - 11:15pm 4 Down, 46 To Go The State of Vermont has legalized gay marriage. They join Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Iowa in allowing equal rights for all people. The new law takes effect on September 1st. Even though California dropped the ball with Prop 8, we are making great progress as a nation. It won't be long before the vast majority of states permit gays and lesbians the right to wed. Tuesday, April 7, 2009 - 6:45pm Obama in Iraq I guess the Republicans will have to come up with another line of attack, after complaining that President Obama wasn't going to visit American troops on his first foreign trip. Sunday, April 5, 2009 - 11:50am The 3am Phone Call It didn't take long for President Obama to have an early morning emergency. Unlike the campaign ad with the 3:00am phone call, the President was awakened at 4:30am and was informed that North Korea had launched a rocket over the Pacific Ocean.
We have reached the point where an international response is required. The world cannot let North Korea fire rockets over other countries. Their missile launching capability must be eliminated before they do any real damage. Thursday, April 2, 2009 - 8:44pm What a Difference!!! One of the reasons many Americans voted for Barack Obama for President was for days like today. Not only did our President lead and listen on the world stage, he even played mediator in an argument between Hu Jintao, President of China and French President Nicolas Sarkozy. It's amazing to have a president that is welcomed, not reviled in other countries. A president who actually treats others as equals is quite a change. Then again, the bar to succeed is very low. It doesn't take much to perform better than George Bush, our worst president ever. Wednesday, April 1, 2009 - 10:55pm Obama Chats with Russian President It's very telling that Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's first comments about his meeting with President Obama seemed like a knock on the previous administration.
I guess even Russia agrees that George Bush was asleep at the wheel. |
