Friday, January 30, 2009 - 8:11pm Could Democrats Get 60 Seats After All? President Obama still needs a Commerce Secretary. Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH) is one of the candidates on the short list. If he is selected, Democratic Governor John Lynch of New Hampshire is allowed to appoint a successor to take the seat. How much you wanna bet that he picks a Democrat to take the seat? Wednesday, January 28, 2009 - 8:40pm It Only Stimulates the Government Democrats shoved a massive, $825 billion spending bill through the House today. Not one Republican voted for the bill, primarily because it does very little to stimulate the economy. It's a good thing the Democrats didn't get sixty seats in the Senate or this liberal spending spree would sail right through.. Let's hope the bill dies there. Tuesday, January 27, 2009 - 9:10pm Wasteful Stimulus Package Give Congress nearly a trillion dollars to spend and they'll find a way to screw it up. That's exactly what's happening with the proposed stimulus bill making its way through the House.
This $825 billion also does little to stimulate the economy in the short-term. According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO), only 65% of the proposed stimulus package will make its way to the economy by September, 2010. That percentage is not going to cut it. The vast majority of the funds need to be outlayed this year. This can be done with tax cuts and state aid. Any program that cannot be completed this calendar year should not be included in the proposal. We already know that at least 35% of this stimulus plan won't be touched for eighteen months. If Congress waits until late 2010 or beyond to use these funds, we may already be in another Great Depression. Sunday, January 25, 2009 - 8:45pm Double Digit Unemployment For the first time in decades, the unemployment rate in two states has hit double digits. The State of Michigan reported a 10.6% jobless rate in December while Rhode Island jumped to 10.0%. It has been twenty-four years since Michigan had an unemployment rate this high and more than three decades since Rhode Island hit the mark. Unfortunately, all signs are that Michigan and Rhode Island will have a lot of company in the next few months. The economy is expected to deteriorate further in 2009 and joblessness will continue to climb. Thus far, only two states have reported figures at 10% or above. However, if the national rate of unemployment rises above that level (currently 7.2%), we will be talking about another Great Depression and not just a deep recession. Saturday, January 24, 2009 - 3:35pm A Pro-Gun Democrat in NY? If Governor Patterson was looking for a Senate candidate who wouldn't be challenged in 2010, he picked the wrong girl. Senator-designate Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) has previously been endorsed by the National Rifle Association (NRA) and has a "perfect" NRA rating in her two terms representing New York's 20th congressional district. Being pro-gun might help you in a congressional race in upstate New York, but a statewide election is a completely different story. The vast majority of voters are downstate and many favor strong gun control. This issue alone means Gillibrand will have a tough time holding her seat in 2010. This looks like a bad move by Patterson. Thursday, January 22, 2009 - 6:55pm Goodbye Gitmo!!! President Obama has been busy in his first few days. He has ordered the Guantanamo Bay prison camp (and all other CIA secret prisons) to be closed within one year. He has also banned torture, effectively immediately! Allow me to say, Thank God!!!
This is just the first step in reversing the wrongs the Bush thugs implemented over the last eight years. We should find out in the next few days how soon we will get out of Iraq. Tuesday, January 20, 2009 - 7:30pm President Barack Obama It has a nice ring to it, huh? President Barack Obama took the oath of office today and delivered this beautiful inauguration speech. There is a good possibility it will be etched in stone somewhere down the road.
p.s. Good riddance to the nightmare that was George Bush. Here's hoping we never see him again...unless it is a perp walk on his way to prison. Monday, January 19, 2009 - 7:25pm Inauguration Eve We stand on the eve of an historic event in American history. Barack Obama, an African-American, is about to be sworn in as the 44th President of the United States. It is a remarkable feat in a country that oppressed his race for centuries. However, this accomplishment by Barack Obama is more about him than it is about his race. He is a transformative figure that has the ability to move this country forward in a new and better direction. It remains to be seen how much the United States will change in the next four to eight years, but tomorrow will mark a new beginning. Sunday, January 18, 2009 - 7:02pm Pelosi Stands in the Way of Recovery Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) appeared on Fox News today to re-iterate her opposition to Barack Obama's tax cut plan. In fact, Pelosi wants Congress to raise taxes immediately. The Speaker knows nothing about economics. She is blindly following the old Democratic platform of repealing tax cuts on "higher" income individuals. She fails to recognize that increasing taxes during a recession would further exacerbate our economic problems. Pelosi best not impede the passage of these tax cuts. We need to get these funds into the hands of Americans. Saturday, January 17, 2009 - 2:15pm The Bush Presidency in Eight Minutes Keith Olbermann sums up the last eight years of the George Bush train-wreck in just eight minutes. Olbermann exaggerates a couple points, but most of his comments are spot on.
Friday, January 16, 2009 - 6:20pm Layoffs Continue As Barack Obama said today, the economy is going to get worse before it gets better. Today, Circuit City decided to liquidate and close all their stores. They are expected to lay off 30,000 employees. GE Capital, the financing arm of General Electric, is reportedly slashing as many as 11,000 positions. In addition, Hertz is getting rid of 4,000 jobs, insurance company WellPoint Inc. is eliminating 1,500 people, and ConocoPhillips is letting 1,400 employees go. These numbers were just from today! President Obama is inheriting an economic disaster. If he can't keep the unemployment rate under 10%, it will be a very long time before we see a recovery. Thursday, January 15, 2009 - 6:55pm Miracle on the Hudson The hero of US Airways flight 1549 is unquestionably the pilot, Chesley B. Sullenberger III. I have no idea how he was able to land this plane on the water without losing a single life. All 150 passengers and crew members survived.

Friday, January 9, 2009 - 7:45pm Memo to Nancy Pelosi The Speaker of the House needs a lesson in economics 101. She spoke before reporters today and was adamant in her desire to repeal the Bush tax cuts. That is Democratic code for wanting to raise taxes. Ms. Pelosi needs to understand that you do not raise taxes in a recession! If she wants to repeal the cuts in a few years then so be it, but you cannot do it now. She would only make this recession deeper and longer. Wednesday, January 7, 2009 - 5:30pm Blagojevich, Richardson, and Kennedy Are the Democrats already killing themselves before they even get started? In the two months since the election, the Illinois Governor tried to sell the Senate seat, Bill Richardson was forced to withdraw from Obama's Cabinet, and New York's Governor seems willing to hand a Senate seat over to a woman with no experience because she's got a great last name. This is all occurring before the Democrats even take over power. Is this what we can expect for the next 2-4 years? If so, the Republicans will be back in power in no time. Corruption usually takes years to fester, but this batch of Democrats is well ahead of the curve. I foresee President Obama having more problems with the left side of Congress than the right. Monday, January 5, 2009 - 10:19pm Another Clinton Appointment Welcome to the new administration, same as the old. President-elect Obama has selected Bill Clinton's former chief of staff, Leon Panetta, to serve as CIA director. So much for change.
I don't know what Barack Obama was thinking with this choice. Perhaps he has a quota of former Clinton staffers that he must select. I have already lost track of the number of Clinton people he has appointed. It would help if the future President could settle on someone with actual intelligence experience to run the Central Intelligence Agency. Otherwise, the agency will start to resemble FEMA under George Bush. Sunday, January 4, 2009 - 5:47pm What's He Hiding? New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson abruptly withdrew his name from consideration as Commerce Secretary. A grand jury is investigating one of his major political donors that was subsequently awarded a large state contract. Richardson claims no wrongdoing, but if that were the case there would be no reason to withdraw. Methinks there is a lot more to this story and that Richardson will not come out clean. Sunday, January 4, 2009 - 1:02am Franken Increases Lead Democrat Al Franken has opened up a wider lead on Republican Norm Coleman in the never-ending Minnesota Senate race. Previously sealed absentee ballots were finally counted, which increased Franken's lead from 49 votes to 225 votes. The recount is just about finished. If Franken does pull out the victory, the Democrats will hold a commanding 59 seats in the Senate. Friday, January 2, 2009 - 9:49pm A Very Bad Idea Do politicians live to invent new ways to tax the public?!?! The States of Oregon, Idaho, and Rhode Island are interested in taxing drivers based on the number of miles they drive!
Here is a concept for lawmakers; stop spending our money!!! It's really not that difficult. Another problem with this idea is privacy. The test group in Oregon all had GPS devices installed in their cars. Can you say big brother is watching??? Like we need the government to monitor our lives any more than they already do. This is what happens when you give the left too much control...and it's only going to get worse. Thursday, January 1, 2009 - 6:55pm Former Senator Pell Dies Claiborne Pell, the Rhode Island Senator responsible for the Pell Grants that give college students government assistance, has passed away. The 90-year old man died at his Newport home with family members by his side. Before becoming a Senator, Pell served in the U.S. Coast Guard and worked in the State Department. He was elected Senator from the State of Rhode Island in 1960 and served for 36 years before retiring in 1997. Pell's focus was largely on education. The grants that bear his name were established in 1973 and have helped hundreds of thousands of young men and women receive a college education. If all our United States Senators and Congressman were more like Claiborne Pell, we'd be a lot better off. He will be missed.

Rather
than focus on actually stimulating the moribund economy, liberal
lawmakers are stuffing the bill with a bunch of garbage pet-projects.
The effect is to push the U.S. economy further into debt without solving
the problem. 
This pick doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Panetta has zero
experience in the intelligence game. He does have a great resume
as a politician, but to select a him as the top spook is absurd.
This ridiculous concept was thought up by...drumroll please...Democrats!
Shocking, I know. However, before you profess your love for Republicans,
many of them are on-board with the idea as well. Even Congress is
talking about taxing mileage.
