Sunday, November 30, 2008 - 11:02am Georgia Senate - Runoff With only two days remaining before the runoff election in Georgia, signs point to Saxby Chambliss (R) holding his seat. The latest polls have Chambliss ahead of Democrat Jim Martin by an average of 4.7%. Heck, even the ultra-liberal DailyKos poll shows Chambliss winning by 6%. If Chambliss wins, the Democrats would not be able to get a filibuster-proof majority of 60 seats. The left needs to win this race and the Minnesota recount to get there. Neither looks very likely today. I would prefer to see Saxby Chambliss lose and Norm Coleman (R) defeat crazy Al Franken (D) in Minnesota. That would keep the Democrats at 59 seats and rid the Senate of another unethical character. Saturday, November 29, 2008 - 8:40am The Mumbai Attack The terrorist attack in Mumbai, India has ended, as security forces have killed the remaining animals. The terrorists murdered 195 people in the ordeal, but fell short of the 5,000 they intended on killing.
Friday, November 28, 2008 - 7:35pm The Hillary Monster Returns Samantha Power, an advisor to Barack Obama who was forced to resign after calling Hillary Clinton a monster, is back. President-elect Obama has chosen her to work on his transition team for the State Department. Powers is one of fourteen members on the agency review team and is expected to help prepare for the monster's nomination. Samantha Power apparently went hat in hand to Hillary to apologize. Apparently, she didn't have the stones to stick to her original (correct) opinion. See, you can say whatever you want in politics and just apologize later. It works for the Clinton's and now it works in reverse. Thursday, November 27, 2008 - 10:36pm The Thanksgiving Song It was a slow day in the political world...
Wednesday, November 26, 2008 - 10:15pm Terror in India Lest we forget that animals still exist in this world. A fire erupts at the Taj hotel in Mumbai after terrorists storm the building. Tuesday, November 25, 2008 - 11:44pm Over $7 Trillion in Bailouts It seems that every day brings another government bailout of a mismanaged company. Well, the free hand-outs are starting to add up. A stunning $7.7 trillion has been pledged by the government on behalf of taxpayers. To put that figure into perspective, it is more than half the GDP of the United States. It is equivalent to $24,000 for every citizen of this country. You can't just print money forever. These massive bailouts will trigger a sharp rise in inflation eventually. It won't be today, but it will come. In addition, the value of the U.S. dollar will plummet if these funds are allocated. The government should not fear a recession. It is a necessary part of the business cycle. Let these companies fail and allow market forces to resolve the situation. Tuesday, November 25, 2008 - 7:21pm Palin to Campaign for Chambliss in Georgia Doesn't this ensure a victory for Jim Martin, the Democrat? The funny part is that Sarah Palin is described as a "closer." I can't stop laughing. Monday, November 24, 2008 - 11:19pm Largest Increase Since 1987! Despite what corporate executives and the media tell us, not everything is doom and gloom these days. In the last two days, the stock market has risen 13.2%. Of course, it was on the back of a Citi bailout, but hey up is up. Investors can breathe easy now....until tomorrow.
Monday, November 24, 2008 - 9:35am Citigroup Gets Bailed Out The largest bank in the United States is now owned by the government. The U.S. Treasury Department decided late Sunday night to give Citigroup $20 billion and backstop a staggering $306 billion in bad loans. In return, the government will receive warrants that are convertible to common stock at $10.61 per share. When the warrants are exercised, the Treasury will own a significant percentage of Citigroup shares. It is enough to give the government contolling interest in the firm. Government-owned companies is how socialism begins. Sunday, November 23, 2008 - 7:40pm GM Board Dismisses Bankruptcy Option Despite spending their company into the ground, the board at General Motors has dismissed the idea of bankruptcy. Unfortunately, bankruptcy may be the only option available to GM. They don't have enough money to continue as a going concern. In the third quarter alone, they spent $6.9 billion more than they raised. I don't imagine the fourth quarter will be any better. Saturday, November 22, 2008 - 1:27pm Saturday Afternoon Funnies
Friday, November 21, 2008 - 8:07pm Food for Thought Did you know that Citigroup employs 120,000 more people than General Motors? They both might go bankrupt by year-end. Which one should the government save first? Thursday, November 20, 2008 - 8:55pm Domestic Auto Market Share Notice that the annual demand for cars in the United States has been relatively steady even as GM and Ford's market share plummets. This chart was four years ago.
The chart below was last year. GM and Ford continue their rapid decline in market share. Toyota, Honda, and Nissan are gaining.
The Asian automakers (who employ American workers in American plants) have been taking market share away from Detroit for decades. Toyota should supplant GM as the domestic market leader in 2009. Honda will likely push Chrysler down to fifth place and could challenge Ford for third place. The point is that the Detroit automakers are a smaller and smaller percentage of domestic auto production. They are not as important as the executives would have you believe. The industry can easily handle the failure of one of more of these companies. Wednesday, November 19, 2008 - 5:58pm Dow Sinks Below 8,000 While American auto industry executives were taking their private jets down to Washington to plead for taxpayer money, the stock market plunged 427 points to finish under 8,000 for the first time since March, 2003. As politicians worry about bailing out a dying business with overpaid workers, the banking industry is eroding before our eyes. Fortunately, the remaining Republicans are stopping the union-owned Democrats from handing $25 billion over to these incompetent companies. Tuesday, November 18, 2008 - 9:42pm Meet the New Senator of Alaska Mark Begich (D) has officially defeated Ted Stevens (R) in the Alaska Senate race. The Democrats now have 58 seats with two races still undecided. Sixty seats is still a possibility. Tuesday, November 18, 2008 - 7:15pm Why I Don't Go to Church I guess I'm supposed to repent for voting for Barack Obama. This is more proof that these people are wackos.
Tuesday, November 18, 2008 - 6:51pm Begich Increases Lead Over Stevens The State of Alaska is finally getting around to counting the rest of the ballots from November 4th election. As the 24,000 remaining ballots are counted, Mark Begich (D) is growing his lead over convicted felon Ted Stevens (R) in the Senate race. Begich now leads by 2,374 votes. In an odd turn, Alaska now claims that turnout broke a record. Initially, it was reported that turnout dropped 13%. It looked very suspicious given the circumstances. It's amazing how many ballots showed up after attorneys came to town to investigate. I guess you can't get away with election fraud...even in Alaska. Monday, November 17, 2008 - 6:00pm Democrats Caving to Lieberman I guess you can do whatever you want as a Democrat. Despite campaigning against Barack Obama and disparaging him, it looks as though Joe Lieberman will be able to keep his high-profile position as Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee. Sources say that the vote will go in his favor. This sets a terrible precedent for the left. What happens next go-round when Obama is running for a second term as President? Any Democrat will feel free to change sides and campaign for the Republican. There are no consequences. Sunday, November 16, 2008 - 5:48pm Job Losses Mounting It is well known that President-elect Barack Obama is about to inherit an economic disaster. Unfortunately, it could be even worse than previously expected. In financial services alone, the numbers are devastating. Here are some of the companies that have announced layoffs in just the past few weeks. Citigroup - Layoffs could rise above 35,000, or 10% of their workforce Fidelity Investments - eliminating 3,000 positions JP Morgan - Planning to cut thousands of jobs Goldman Sachs - 3,260 jobs cut. Morgan Stanley - approximately 4,600 jobs This will get worse before it gets better. Wells Fargo, Bank of America, and PNC Financial will soon announce layoffs at the firms they acquired (Wachovia, Merrill Lynch, National City). In addition, employees at Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers, Washington Mutual, and Countrywide Financial have already lost their jobs. This is just one sector of the economy. Other industries are also expected to suffer. The unemployment rate in the United States will increase rapidly during the first six months of the Obama administration. I hope he's ready for it. Saturday, November 15, 2008 - 10:39pm Scenes from the Gay Marriage Ban Protest Citizens from around the country came out today to protest California's recent ban on gay marriage. This picture below sums it up perfectly. I couldn't have said it any better myself. Saturday, November 15, 2008 - 3:50pm Not Friendly Are these two really going to work together? Here's how they were back in January.
Saturday, November 15, 2008 - 9:25am Prop 8 Protests Around the Nation After enormous financial support from churches, a ban on gay marriage (Proposition 8) passed in California a couple weeks ago. It has not gone over well. Today, there will be coordinated protests in 300 cities across the country in support of gay marriage. Find your city here. Count me in as a strong supporter of gay marriage. I am also a believer in the separation of church and state. When church groups throw their money into the political arena, we should strip them of their tax-exempt status. Churches have been discriminating against gays and lesbians for decades. The Mormon and Catholic churches are bigoted, vile institutions that know nothing of the love and peace that they preach. Hopefully these protests will spark a consensus to remove their tax-exempt status and treat them as any other organization. Friday, November 14, 2008 - 9:00pm Begich Increases Lead It looks like Senator Ted Stevens (R) is going down after all. Mark Begich (D) has increased his lead over the convict from 814 votes to 1,022 after the Elections Division counted another 14,508 ballots. The remaining ballots to be counted are in districts that favor Mark Begich, so his margin should continue to rise. Ted Stevens is going to lose. The Democrats will increase their majority to 58 seats with Minnesota and Georgia still to be decided. Friday, November 14, 2008 - 6:30pm Keep Your Friend Close and Your Enemies Closer Machiavelli's advice in "The Prince" may come true in American government. The idea of keeping your enemies close must be what Barack Obama was thinking when he (allegedly) offered Hillary Clinton the position as Secretary of State. This is crazy though. President-elect Obama can't possibly think this is a good idea. She is a monster. Her husband is pure evil. Must we have a Bush or Clinton in every administration? Can't both families go away? Thursday, November 13, 2008 - 11:45pm Hillary for Secretary of State? Rumor has it that Hillary Clinton could be named Secretary of State. The Obama folks are either floating her name to see what happens or are serious about offering her the job. I am beginning to lose hope in the future Obama administration. He's already willing to give Detroit and the unions billions of dollars and now he's considering a corrupt, dirty politician as Secretary of State. This is the same old Washington. Change may never come to our country. Thursday, November 13, 2008 - 7:20am AK Senate - Begich Takes the Lead Surprise, surprise. After deciding to count an extraordinary amount of absentee and early ballots, Democrat Mark Begich has passed convicted felon Ted Stevens (R) in the Alaska Senate Race. Begich now leads by 814 votes with another 40,000 votes left to count. Wednesday, November 12, 2008 - 6:55pm Don't Believe the Hype No matter what the politicians say, the American auto industry is not in terrible shape. The auto industry in this country is much more than GM, Ford, and Chrysler. Many foreign car companies have manufacturing plants in the United States and employ American workers.
The American auto industry can easily survive the failure of three companies. When a company fails in an industry, the stronger players step up, take market share away, and increase their workforce The situation is no different in this case. The only issue is the concentration of jobs in Michigan, which can be rectified to some extent. With the help of the U.S. government, the State of Michigan can entice Honda, Nissan, Toyota and others car companies into building production facilities in their state. The states listed above brought foreign auto firms to their area by offering tax breaks and other attractive benefits. Local government officials took this action because it created jobs for American workers. It would not be difficult for Michigan to offer a similar deal. In the meantime, the federal government can extend unemployment benefits in Michigan and help auto workers find jobs in other states. The cost to taxpayers would be exponentially reduced. Wednesday, November 12, 2008 - 7:35am No Bail Out Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama, and other Democrats are getting ready to bail out the auto industry. This is a very bad idea. You do not bail out poorly run companies. You let them fail. That's how capitalism works. It's a shame that billions of taxpayer dollars will go to prop up three failing companies. Tuesday, November 11, 2008 - 3:45pm How Many Ballots Are There? Election officials in Alaska are preparing to count 50,000 absentee and early ballots on Wednesday to determine the outcome of the Senate race. In addition, there are 20,000 more ballots that have yet to be authenticated. That would make 70,000 ballots left to count. A few days ago, the Anchorage Daily News said the figure was more than 81,000. (see below) Why is there now an 11,000 vote difference? In an election where less than 300,000 people participated (supposedly), a gap of 11,000 is quite large. Tuesday, November 11, 2008 - 11:05am God will Show Palin the Way Now that she has lost the election, the real Sarah Palin is beginning to emerge and it ain't pretty. The woman that literally doesn't know anything about foreign and domestic policy is not ruling out a run for President in 2012. Palin believes that God will show her the way.
The reality is that Sarah Palin lacks direction in life. She clings (yes, I said clings) to religion because she doesn't know what else to do. It's really quite sad. She reminds me of the cult followers of Jim Jones. They can't think for themselves and would follow a wacko in a second if he told them a good story. Monday, November 10, 2008 - 10:00pm Bush Approval Rating With only two month left in his presidency, George Bush's approval rating is even lower than when Richard Nixon left office. Unfortunately, there are still 24% of (ignorant) Americans that approve of the job he did. Monday, November 10, 2008 - 12:09am Reviewing Executive Orders President-elect Barack Obama intends on reviewing hundreds of executive orders that George Bush has made over the last eight years. These orders range from stem-cell research to drilling and other important issues.. On behalf of everyone, allow me to say...Thank God!!! Obama will get the chance to reverse the wrongs the Bush administration has been perpetrating for nearly a decade. Before he reverses everything, President Obama should declare Bush an enemy combatant and lock him up indefinitely. After all, it was Bush's idea to institute that rule and deny Americans the writ of habeas corpus. Sunday, November 9, 2008 - 9:47pm Good vs. Evil The future leader of the free world meets with the torturer-in-chief tomorrow morning. Any chance Obama can start immediately?
Saturday, November 8, 2008 - 4:31pm Number of Ballots Increase in Alaska The suspicious election in the State of Alaska is growing more peculiar by the day. Originally it was reported that 9,000 early ballots and 40,000 absentee ballots remained to be counted. Today, MSNBC put the number of absentee and provisional ballots at 55,000 and the Anchorage Daily News claims that more than 81,000 ballots remain uncounted. Many are questioning the validity of the election itself as the overall turnout declined, despite a large increase in registrations and the high-profile nature of the race. With the growing number of absentee ballots, perhaps some of the "missing" votes have been found. If so, Mark Begich (D) may actually have a chance to win against the convict. Saturday, November 8, 2008 - 11:21am Saturday Morning Humor
Friday, November 7, 2008 - 10:59pm
Joe the I've had enough of Senator Joe Lieberman. Harry Reid needs to get some cajones and take him out as chairman of the Homeland Security Committee. In fact, Reid should get rid of him altogether. The GOP is willing to take him. Please let him go. Friday, November 7, 2008 - 5:32pm Anybody But Kerry I can see President-elect Obama's first mistake a mile away. Rumor has it that John Kerry could be named Secretary of State. As much as I'd love to see the empty suit out of my state, this would be a terrible decision. John Kerry is an arrogant, do-nothing Senator with zero personal skills. The last thing we need is for him to speak with foreign leaders. Friday, November 7, 2008 - 8:00am Rigged Election in Alaska I am convinced that Tuesday's election in Alaska was stolen. With a high-profile Senate race and their own Governor on the Presidential ticket, the number of people voting supposedly declined by 13% versus 2004. I find that impossible to believe, especially considering that early voters set a new record this year in Alaska. In addition, the polls were nowhere near the actual results in any of the three races. Here are the results for the President, Senate, and House.
Every poll in the days leading up to the election showed Mark Begich and Ethan Berkowitz winning comfortably. Polls can be wrong of course, but can every single poll be wrong by this much in all three races? I doubt it. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but this wreaks of corruption. There are missing votes up in Alaska somewhere. I'm betting they've disappeared from very Democratic precincts. Thursday, November 6, 2008 - 8:52pm Picture of the Day Somebody in this country needs a geography lesson. The continent of Africa is seen below.
Thursday, November 6, 2008 - 6:15pm Feeling Sorry for Sarah I know she's dumb as a box of rocks, but the McCain camp is blaming Sarah Palin for all their campaign blunders. It's John McCain's fault that he picked a novice, local politician to be his running mate. His advisors want to save face by burying her, but the truth is that they should never work in politics again. However, now that we know she's a whack-job, hillbilly, diva, can the media dispense with the 'Palin in 2012' garbage? Dan Quayle has a better chance of becoming President. Wednesday, November 5, 2008 - 9:00pm Democrat Jeff Merkley Wins Oregon Senate! The leading news organization in Oregon has declared Jeff Merkley the winner in his Senate race against incumbent Gordon Smith (R). The Democrats now have 57 seats, a gain of six. Wednesday, November 5, 2008 - 6:04pm Four Senate Races Undecided The Democrats have picked up five seats in the Senate thus far, bringing their total to 56. They could increase that number as four races remain undetermined.
Republicans should hold at least two of these seats and prevent the Democrats from attaining a filibuster-proof majority. Wednesday, November 5, 2008 - 12:15am Proud to be an American
Not that I wasn't proud before, but watching President-elect Barack
Obama speak before the crowd in Chicago gives me great joy and pride in
our nation! We Tuesday, November 4, 2008 - 11:20pm The Scene from Grant Park in Chicago
Tuesday, November 4, 2008 - 11:00pm California, Hawaii Makes it Official President-elect Barack Obama has officially cleared 270 electoral votes!!! California, Oregon, Washington, and Hawaii were declared for Barack Obama at the top of the hour. Obama now has 297 electoral votes!!! This is officially an overwhelming victory!!! Tuesday, November 4, 2008 - 10:19pm President-Elect Barack Obama It has a nice ring to it, doesn't it? Tuesday, November 4, 2008 - 10:06pm Obama Flipping Red States Senator Barack Obama is succeeding in turning red states into blue. Obama has won Ohio, Iowa, and New Mexico. He has pulled near even in Virginia and Indiana and is still ahead in Florida and North Carolina. The landslide will bring it down... Tuesday, November 4, 2008 - 9:30pm Barack Obama Wins Ohio!!! MSNBC, Fox and CBS project Barack Obama the winner in the battleground state of Ohio! Barack Obama has effectively won the Presidency!!! Tuesday, November 4, 2008 - 9:05pm Update The battleground states are still too close to call. John McCain is ahead in Virginia, but the northern part of the state is yet to report in large numbers. McCain is also winning in Indiana, but the Illinois suburbs have not come in. Barack Obama is leading in Florida and North Carolina. Arizona is too close to call. Tuesday, November 4, 2008 - 8:15pm Obama Takes Pennsylvania!!! MSNBC has declared Barack Obama the winner in Pennsylvania. CNN's exit polls have Obama winning the state by 15.5%. This is a huge win for Senator Obama. He only needs to win one battleground state to become President. Tuesday, November 4, 2008 - 7:56pm Exit Polls Take these with a grain of salt, but CNN's exit polls have Barack Obama winning Virginia by 9 percent, Indiana by nearly 6, and North Carolina by almost 4. Unfortunately, Obama did significantly worse than what exit polls predicted during the primary. Tuesday, November 4, 2008 - 7:00pm First Results Polls are now closed in the battleground states of Georgia, Indiana and Virginia. There is no projected winner yet. Barack Obama has been declared the winner in Vermont. John McCain has been declared the winner in Kentucky. South Carolina has not been called. That could be a problem for John McCain. He should win this state comfortably. Tuesday, November 4, 2008 - 6:20pm Watch VA and PA If Obama wins both Virginia and Pennsylvania, this race is over. If not, it could be a long night. Tuesday, November 4, 2008 - 5:52pm Long Lines Dominate the Landscape People are coming out in droves. As many as 140 million citizens will cast a ballot today. Tuesday, November 4, 2008 - 5:15pm Yes, Yes, Yes That is how I cast my vote on the three ballot questions in Massachusetts. The questions were to eliminate the state income tax, to change marijuana possession from a crime to a civil offense ($100 fine), and to ban greyhound racing at two tracks in the state. The tax base in my state is astronomical, so any chance to reduce them is warranted. I would also prefer to pay taxes through choice. By that I mean that the state should generate revenue through sales and property taxes, two areas where a citizen must choose to buy something before being taxed. On Question 2, I believe our police have better things to do than chase potheads around. On Question 3, dog racing is subsidized; that sealed it for me. I made sure to vote against John Kerry in the U.S. Senate. This makes up for my hold-my-nose vote for him in 2004. I went with the Libertarian candidate, although I know he has no chance of winning. Oh yeah, and I voted for Barack Obama!!! If you read this blog regularly, you already knew that. Tuesday, November 4, 2008 - 6:35am Yes! We! Can! Our long national nightmare of the last eight years is almost over. Go vote!!! Monday, November 3, 2008 - 6:30pm Election Eve With one day remaining, Barack Obama is increasing his lead in national polls. Pollster.com pegs his lead at 7.0%, while RealClearPolitics shows him with a 7.3% advantage. At those levels, Obama would win an electoral landslide.
Monday, November 3, 2008 - 5:47pm Madelyn Dunham (1922 - 2008) On the eve of the biggest night of his life, Barack Obama has a heavy heart. His grandmother, Madelyn Dunham has lost her battle with cancer. She was 86 years old. The woman who raised Barack for half his childhood was not able to make it to election night to see her grandson become President. Monday, November 3, 2008 - 12:05am GOP Breaks Out the Wright Card With less than 48 hours to go before the election, the GOP is out with an attack ad on Barack Obama using Reverend Wright. The last minute ad is completely over the top and wreaks of desperation. It just proves the Republican party will say and do anything to cling to power. According to CNN, this ad is running in Pennsylvania. However, I just saw a very similar version to the Pennsylvania ad here in Rhode Island. Sunday, November 2, 2008 - 6:45pm The Undecided Voter According to RealClearPolitics, nearly 6% of voters are still undecided. If history is any guide, the undecideds will break significantly for John McCain. That is because in past national elections between a black candidate and a white candidate, the undecided voters break heavily to the white guy.
I do believe Barack Obama's ground game is vastly superior to John McCain's, which is why I have predicted an electoral landslide victory. However, if McCain can match his get-out-the-vote operation and undecided voters break his way, this election could be much closer than the experts think. Saturday, November 1, 2008 - 10:54pm Palin Punked by Montreal DJ Does Sarah Palin have any clue whatsoever? It took her a full six-minute phone conversation to figure out that a couple of Montreal comedians were not French President Nicolas Sarkozy. Shame on the McCain camp for not knowing how to screen phone calls. Saturday, November 1, 2008 - 7:54pm Dick Cheney Endorses John McCain Is the current Vice President trying to get John McCain to lose? Surely he must know that his endorsement is like wishing death on someone. Barack Obama has, of course, jumped all over Dr. Evil's endorsement.
