Thursday, June 22, 2006 - 2:00pm Is North Korea Just Looking for a Handout? While the U.S. has it's hands full in Iraq, it seems that Iran and North Korea have been very busy playing with missiles and nuclear warheads. Iran has been trying to develop nuclear weapons technology and North Korea is getting ready to test-fire one of their missiles. The North Korean missile is believed to be capable of reaching the mainland of the United States. It is also believed that North Korea already has nuclear weapons. It should be noted that there are a number of countries that have nuclear weapons and other missiles capable of reaching the United States. The difference is that North Korea is considered to be an unstable nation with unknown intentions. The U.S. has activated its missile defense system, but that system is not very effective. In tests over the last few years, the defense system has connected on 5 of 8 targets, but there have been a number of instances where the defense missile failed to launch at all. This was due to malfunctions. So 20+ years after Reagan began "Star Wars" (SDI), it is still not very good. It does appear that North Korea is just feeling blue because the U.S. is paying so much attention to Iran. Apparently, North Korea doesn't want to be left out in the discussion of which regime is the craziest. Ok, what they're really after is a handout from the U.S. government. Bush and his people have already offered a deal to Iran, so North Korea wants similar treatment. So what we have is a country that is just trying to coerce the United States into giving them knowledge, technology, money, etc. They are effectively holding a gun to the U.S. government in order to become even more powerful. Hopefully, the administration won't give them a dime! Political Critic - political blogs, conservatives, liberals, democrats, republicans, video blog, political opinion. |
