Saturday, September 23, 2006 - 5:00pm Osama Bin Laden May Be Dead I won't believe it until I see a body, but a French newspaper is reporting that Osama bin Laden is dead. A conflicting report from a Saudi Intel source claims that he is not dead, but very ill. According to the French report, Osama bin Laden died of typhoid on August 23rd in Pakistan. Other intelligence officials remain skeptical about the report as they have been unable to confirm them with bin Laden's family.
There
have been rumors about Osama being sick or dead many times, so I don't
put a lot of stock in this one. It is good to hope though.
It has been over five years since the attacks of September 11th and
Osama has been freely running around Pakistan the whole time. It
would be great to know that he's dead. Unfortunately, the Bush administration gave up on finding and killing Osama years ago and instead focused their attention on starting a war in Iraq. They used bin Laden and 9/11 as an excuse to initiate a war with a country that had nothing to do with the attacks.
Bin Laden was responsible for the deaths of thousands of American citizens, yet Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld decided he wasn't worth pursuing. To this day, I still don't understand the logic.
Since George Bush failed miserably at trying to kill Osama bin Laden, let's hope the illness killed him instead. The last known communication from the al Qaeda leader was on June 30, 2006 from an audio tape.
The Saudis are attempting to confirm the burial site before announcing what their intelligence has told them. It goes without saying that the citizens in the United States and around the world will celebrate if Osama bin Laden is actually dead.
