Thursday, September 7, 2006 - 12:30am The Secret Prison Ploy Election season is closing in on us and the President doesn't say one word this time of year that isn't targeted toward winning the elections in November. With that in mind, Bush admitted that there are secret CIA prisons in other countries. His speech was an effort to make terrorism the #1 conversation going into November. Fighting terrorism is the only area in which the GOP is polling ahead of the Democrats and they need to talk about that and not the Iraq war.
This was a political move only. Bush is trying to throw anything at the wall that sticks. One day it's the evil media, the next day it's about secret prisons. Nobody really cares about those issues. That is old news. The American people care about the war in Iraq because we have hundreds of thousands soldiers over there.
So tell me what you're going to do to fix that problem? Bush has done nothing in the last 3 1/2 years to protect the men and women of the armed forces. He has only put them in harm's way. Right now, Bush could care less about the war. He is worried about keeping his party in power. To do that, his administration thinks that Iraq is the last thing they should talk about.
I guarantee that you will not be hearing Bush make big speeches about Iraq in the next two months. Unless it helps the GOP's numbers, Bush will not talk or do anything about it. He may announce a troop reduction when the election draws near, but that will simply be false hope for the families of loved ones in Iraq. He'll have no intention of making good on it.
