In the
old days, they would light a fire on top of a hill to guide
ships into ports. That was thousands of years ago, but
it is how lighthouses got their start. It wasn't until
1716 that the first constructed lighthouse was built in the
United States. The 2013 Lighthouses calendars show the
what they look like hundreds of years later. Boston
Harbor was home to the first one. After that one was
built, lighthouses took off and were constructed up and down
the coast. There are some on Cape Cod, Nantucket, and
down to New Jersey. Lighthouses were relied upon by
boats and helped save the ships. There are many 2013
