author of the American West was Louis L'Amour. He
lived from 1908 to 1988 and in his life, he wrote more than
100 books and sold hundreds of millions of copies. The

Dakota as the youngest of seven children. He began
writing in the 1930's, but went to fight in World War II in

in the 1950's and 1960's. In his life, he also receive
the Congressional Medal of Honor.
