Black Fives 2007 Calendars
|
Between
1900 and 1940, basketball in America was segregated and
African-American basketball leagues thrived in different
cities. In New York City, Chicago, and Washington,
D.C., players created leagues to compete against each other.
The 2007 Black Fives calendar shows some of those guys from
back in the day. Some of the best players to be in
these leagues were George Gilmore, Cumberland Posey, Ed
Gray, Hudson Oliver. Cum Posey was considered the best
overall player in the Black Fives. He lived from 1890
- 1946 and played with the Homestead Grays. He went on
to become a manager and eventually an owner. The Black
Fives 2007 calendars have photos of many of the key guys.
The Black Fives dissolved in the 1940's and were integrated
into white leagues. |
