The
Fighting Illini of Illinois have grown into a major player
in NCAA Division 1-A college football. They compete in
the Big Ten Conference with the likes of Michigan, Penn
State, Ohio State, Minnesota and Purdue. Northwestern
is also a rival as you can see from the 2013 Illinois
Fighting Illini calendar above. They won the national
championship five times, with the first being in 1914 and
the last in 1951. The program in the Illinois 2013
Fighting Illini football calendar is taken from the October
18th, 1930 game against Northwestern. It was their
21st annual homecoming game, with the first being in 1910, a
full one hundred years ago. Since 1951, Illinois has
not won any more national titles, but they have won the Big
Ten championship many times, with the most recent in 2001
under Ron Turner. That team went to the Sugar Bowl. |
