The
indigenous people that were the first to inhabit what is now
the United States are American Indians or native Americans.
Many different tribes comprised the whole, with unique
ethnic groups depending on the region. The Crow, Hopi,
Navajo, and Nunivak are all represented in this 2013
American Indians calendar. The initial migration to
the Americas occurred over a land bridge that is now the
Bering Strait some 12,000 years ago. Rising sea levels
have since eliminated the area, but not before a large
number had crossed. They spread around the continent
as these American Indians 2013 calendars demonstrate.
Disease and European colonization had an extremely negative
effect on Native Americans and the population dwindled over
the centuries. However, American Indians in the United
States currently number over 2.5 million people or 1.4% of
the population. |
