Game 1 of the 2004 World Series featured the St.
Louis Cardinals against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway
Park. 2004 was the first time the Boston Red Sox had been in the World Series since 1986. These two teams had not played each other in the Series since 1967, where the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the
Red Sox. This Red Sox poster shows the national anthem before the start of the World Series. The American flag is draped over the Green Monster in left field. The Red Sox won game one of the 2004 World Series 11-9 in a slugfest, despite committing four errors. They went on to win the 2004 World Series is a 4 games to zero sweep.
