The Red Sox had already come back from three games down to tie the series at 3-3. All that was left was one more game for the Sox to complete the comeback. The Sox faced Kevin Brown in Game 7 and immediately got 2 runs off him in the first inning when David Ortiz launched a home run. Then, in the second, they quickly loaded the bases with Millar, Meuller, and Cabrera. Javier Vazquez was brought in to relieve as Brown was getting drilled. Then Johnny Damon stepped to the plate and crushed a grand slam off Vazquez into the right field seats of Yankee Stadium. Johnny Damon turned on the pitch quickly and it flew right down the first base line. It was a thing of beauty and the Red Sox went up 6-0 and went on to win the game 10-3 and later won the World Series. |
