Opened for use in 1883 and one of the largest suspension bridges in the country. It connects Brooklyn to Manhattan by going across the East River. It took sixty years of political wrangling to get the Brooklyn Bridge constructed and then in took fourteen years to actually build the bridge. However, once it was built, the Brooklyn Bridge became a mainstay in New York. Many thing have changed in New York City in the last 100 years, but the Brooklyn Bridge has stayed. The chief designer of the Brooklyn Bridge was John Roebling, who died in an accident during observations for the construction. |
