Richard Gere was born in 1949 in Philadelphia, PA to a middle class family. He went to college at UMass Amherst, but dropped out after two years to try his hand at acting. Richard Gere went to London and was moderately successful for a few years. He returned to the states and landed the spot in "American Gigilo" in 1980. That put Richard Gere at the top of the list for new movies and he soon starred in "An Officer and a Gentleman" in 1982. Richard Gere was married briefly to Cindy
Crawford, the supermodel, but is currently married to
actress Carey Lowell. |
