He was born into a Jewish family in Bavaria in May of 1923. In order to escape Hitler's reign of terror, Kissinger's family emigrated to New York in 1938. Henry Kissinger was made a citizen in 1943. He went to high school in New York and was drafted into the military when he was of age. Henry Kissinger later attended Harvard University and graduated in 1950. By 1954, he had received a Master's degree and a Ph.D. from Harvard. He became an advisor to the New York Governor and later became the National Security Advisor under Richard Nixon from 1969-1973. Henry Kissinger then became the Secretary of State from 1973-1977.
