This was the most used flag during
World War II. It was used and
displayed throughout WWII by families around the country. It came to symbolize patriotism, hope and freedom that the United States would win the war against Nazi Germany and Japan. The war took place from 1939 - 1945, although the United Stated did not get involved until 1941. It was fought on two fronts: Europe and Japan. In Europe, the war turned on D-Day, June 6, 1944. It was the day that Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy, which was being controlled by Germany. In Japan, the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki ended the war.
