This album was released
on September 15, 1975. It was the end of a four year
period that was considered the breakout years for the band.
They had released "Meddle" in 1971 and "Obscured by the
Clouds" in 1972. These albums did very well, but they
paled in comparison to their release of "Dark Side of the
Moon" in 1973, which was one of the best selling albums in
American history. "The Wall" and the "Wish You Were
Here" albums were released at the peek of Pink Floyd's
career. The album itself was a tribute to former
frontman Sid Barrett, who became mentally ill after years of
drug abuse. It sold over 6 million copies and hit #1
on Billboard's charts. It was ranked the 209th best
record of all time by Rolling Stone. |
