Busch Memorial Stadium opened on May 12, 1966 and is home to the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. It was also the site of the All-Star game just after it's opening in 1966. Busch Memorial Stadium sparked a renovation of the downtown area, as more businesses were drawn to it. For years, the Cardinals played on artificial turf, one of the worst inventions in baseball. However, in 1996, Busch Memorial Stadium finally returned to a natural grass surface, as is shown in this poster or picture. The park holds 50,345 people. Unfortunately, a new park is being built and Busch Memorial Stadium will soon be a memory. In 2006, the team will move in to it's new, state-of-the-art $400 million facility. |
