The Vietnam Memorial is located in Washington, D.C. and has the names inscribed of the soldiers who died in the war. There are 58,226 names listed on the wall. The site was built and opened in 1982. There are two other parts to the memorial, but the wall is the most recognizable. The walls are made up of black granite and is about 493 feet long and 10 feet high. Approximately 3 million tourist come each year to see the names and to pay their respects. The entire project was funded by the American public. Over $8.4 million was raised to construct the memorial and it opened to the public in March of 1982.
