This British pop group was formed in 1960 in Liverpool, England. It's band members included Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison. In the early years, Pete Best and Stuart Sutcliffe were also part of the band. The Beatles became the most successful music group in the world, having more than fifty songs in the top 40. It was an amazing feat considering that the band only stayed together for 11 years.
Even though Paul McCartney just turned 64, The Beatles
t-shirts and other products sell remarkably well. The Beatles recorded such great hits as "Eleanor Rigby", "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", "Yesterday", "Hey Jude", "Let it Be", "She Loves You", and "I Want to Hold Your Hand". Many decades later, their songs and music still resonate even with younger fans. Tragedy also struck this group after they had broken apart. John Lennon was killed on December 8, 1980 in New York City, NY by a crazed gunman. He was just 40 years old. The Strawberry Fields Memorial was constructed in Central Park in New York to remember Lennon. Strawberry Fields Forever was the name of one of his songs. |
