The
classic symbol of the Republican Party is the elephant,
while the symbol of the Democratic Party is the donkey.
It was created in 1874 in the publication Harper's Weekly by
Thomas Nast. The Elephant logo on the t-shirts above
show the GOP logo in the red, white, and blue colors.
Thomas Nast created a cartoon of an Asian elephant, which
began the trend of the logo. Nast also created the
donkey symbol for the Democrats. The logo t-shirts
have been around almost as long as the party itself.
The Republican Party was established in 1854 and first held
the Presidency with Abraham Lincoln.
