One
hundred and sixty years ago, the land was part of
Washington, D.C., but Arlington County was given to the
Commonwealth of Virginia in a reverse secession in 1847.
The Arlington t-shirts identify the local area as their own,
with support for the area. There are now about 200,000
folks in the urban county, with many of them working in the
District. The white Arlington t-shirts are also
produced in other colors and styles. The two main
sites in Arlington are The Pentagon and Arlington National
Cemetery. The Pentagon serves as the military
headquarters of the United States. It is shaped like
an octagon. The Arlington National Cemetery is across
from the Potomac River. It has almost 300,000
servicemen buried there. Former President John F.
Kennedy is buried there along with a number of other
American presidents. |
