One of
the few cities in the United States that is named after a
passage in the Bible is Dothan, Alabama. The passage,
in Genesis 37:17 reads "...let us go to Dothan." The
Dothan t-shirts do not make a biblical reference, but the do
say that great things are there. The city is in the
southeast corner of Alabama, just to the north of the
Florida panhandle. The other Dothan t-shirts profess
to get there or bust, a reference to doing everything
possible to arrive there. The city is a good distance
from any major city, which leads it to have a character all
its own. There is still a lot of economic and
religious segregation in Dothan. However, an influx of
middle-class neighborhoods is slowly changing that. |
