The
oleander city that lies directly on the Gulf of Mexico is
the island community of Galveston. Destroyed by a
hurricane in 1900, the city was fortunate in being spared by
Hurricane Rita. The Galveston t-shirts show survival
from the hurricane preparation. As Rita was
approaching, it seemed half of Texas was evacuated and stuck
on Interstate 10. Tens of thousands would appreciate
these Hurricane Rita gridlock t-shirts as they suffered.
Before the 1900 hurricane, Galveston had a larger population
than Houston. Afterward, Galveston, Texas was a shell
of itself. Until Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans,
the 1900 storm stood as the worst natural disaster in the
history of the United States. |
