The
whaling city of New Bedford is located on the southeastern
coast of Massachusetts about thirty miles east of
Providence, Rhode Island. It is ranked fifth in
population after Boston, Worcester, Springfield, Lowell, and
Cambridge. The 508 is displayed on these New Bedford
t-shirts as the area code of the city. The second New
Bedford t-shirts are for the females in town.
Recently, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority has
proposed extending the commuter rail service down to New
Bedford. This would bring a much needed influx of
middle-income residents to the city and allow folks to
travel daily to Boston for work. The cost is $800
million, but has not yet been approved by the state.
If approval is given, it would be a few years before New
Bedford receives the commuter train. |
