The
cherry city in Marion and Polk Counties in northwest Oregon
is the city of Salem. Like many other towns on the
west coast, the name is likely derived from a businessman's
hometown on the east coast. In this case, it would be
Salem, Massachusetts. The Salem t-shirts can therefore
be used for the Massachusetts of Oregon cities, since the
state is not designated on the shirts. David Leslie is
the man from the New England town known for burning witches
at the stake. Although not known for certain, it is
believed he may have been the one to name this Oregon city.
Either way, any Salem in America works with these t-shirts.
There is even a fictional Salem in the soap opera Days of
Our Lives. In that television show, they never
designate a state. |
