It
wasn't until 1896 that the Mormon state of Utah was finally
admitted into the United States, but since that time it has
grown at exponential levels. Nearly 2.5 million people
live here today versus about 250,000 at the time of
acceptance. The admission into the union was held up
by Mormon's (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints)
desire to have multiple wives as depicted in these Utah
t-shirts. They abolished the policy officially, but
there are some sects inside the state that still practice
polygamy. That is why these Utah t-shirts are so
funny. A Dateline NBC program recently focused on the
practice of polygamy with one Utah community. However,
this practice has become frowned upon in Utah, especially
now that less than half the population is Mormon. |
